With basic groups, you manually drag and drop any existing references into your group. The references are still kept in "All References" folder; basic groups only contain copies of them. To create a basic group:

• In your EndNote library select Groups > Create Group

• Give the newly created group a name 

To add references to your newly created group:

• Highlight a single or multiple references and either drag them into the group in the left-hand menu OR select Groups > Add references to [Group Name]
